The Nigeria Police Force has appointed Chief Superintendent of Police (CSP) Iniedu Okokon as its new Force Public Relations Officer (FPRO), replacing Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Anthony Placid in a fresh leadership reshuffle.
The appointment comes barely three months after Placid assumed the role following the appointment of the Inspector-General of Police, as the 23rd IGP.
Placid confirmed his redeployment in a brief response when contacted, although the police authorities have yet to officially explain the circumstances surrounding the change.
According to sources at Force Headquarters, Placid has been reassigned to head the Finance and Administration Department of the Lagos State Police Command. The position became vacant following the death of its former occupant, DCP Khan Salihu, after a brief illness.
Okokon is expected to assume duty immediately and will oversee the Force’s public communications and media relations. Meanwhile, the recently established Force New Media Unit will remain under the leadership of CSP Aliyu Giwa.
Before his appointment, Okokon served as the head of the Complaint Response Unit (CRU), where he was involved in handling public complaints and strengthening police-community relations.
Police authorities are expected to provide further details regarding the appointment and other changes within the Force hierarchy in the coming days.
