The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has dismissed as fake and unauthorised the lists of candidates currently circulating on social media for upcoming elections in Imo, Abia, Anambra and other states.
The party said the purported candidate lists did not originate from its national headquarters and should be disregarded by members and the general public.
Party Confirms Submission of Authentic Candidates to INEC
In a statement issued on Friday, the National Secretary of the party, Barrister Ikenna Enekweizu, said the NDC had already submitted its official list of candidates to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) through the procedures prescribed by the Electoral Act.
According to him, only the names officially forwarded to the electoral commission should be regarded as authentic.
“The general public, especially members of the NDC in Imo, Abia, Anambra and other affected states, are hereby urged to disregard the lists of candidates widely circulating on social media as the authentic lists of our party’s candidates.
“The said lists are fake and did not emanate from the party headquarters,” the statement said.
NDC Launches Investigation
The party disclosed that it has commenced investigations to identify those responsible for circulating the alleged lists.
According to the NDC, the unauthorised publications appear to be deliberate attempts to create confusion, spread misinformation and cause internal distractions within the party.
The statement described the individuals behind the lists as “mischief makers” seeking to undermine the party’s activities and credibility.
Party Reaffirms Commitment to Members
While assuring members that the situation was under control, the NDC reiterated its commitment to building a strong political platform capable of providing credible leadership and democratic alternatives for Nigerians.
The party urged supporters to remain focused and rely only on official communications from its national leadership regarding candidate nominations and electoral matters.
“The party is investigating the sources of such fabrications and leaks, as they are desperate attempts to sow ill will and create distractions within the party,” Enekweizu stated.
He added that the NDC remains committed to its mission of strengthening democratic governance and advancing its political objectives with the support of party members nationwide.
Call for Caution
The party advised the public to verify information from official channels before sharing political content online, warning that the spread of false information could mislead voters and create unnecessary tension ahead of upcoming elections.
The NDC maintained that its authentic candidates have already been duly submitted to INEC and that any contrary information should be treated as false.
