ADC Alleges Political Motive Behind El-Rufai’s Detention

Party Says Former Kaduna Governor Is Being Targeted for Political Reasons

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has accused the administration of President Bola Tinubu of politically targeting former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai, warning that the Federal Government would be held responsible if anything happens to him while in custody.

The party’s National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi, made the remarks during an interview on Symfoni TV, where he alleged that El-Rufai’s continued detention was driven by political considerations rather than the pursuit of justice, The News Edition reports.

According to Abdullahi, the former governor has not been convicted of any offence, stressing that questions of guilt or innocence should be determined by the courts.

He argued that keeping El-Rufai in prolonged detention suggested an attempt to prevent him from participating in the 2027 political process and strengthening the opposition.

“If anything happens to Nasir El-Rufai while he remains in state custody, President Bola Tinubu and his administration will bear full responsibility,” Abdullahi said.

The ADC spokesman further claimed that El-Rufai had played a significant role in supporting Tinubu’s presidential ambition despite opposition from some members of former President Muhammadu Buhari’s cabinet.

He maintained that the party believes the former Kaduna governor is being unfairly targeted for political reasons.

The Federal Government has not officially responded to the ADC’s latest allegations at the time of filing this report.
