The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has officially released the results of the 2026 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) mop-up exercise.
The announcement was made on Tuesday by JAMB’s Public Communication Advisor, Fabian Benjamin, who confirmed that candidates who participated in the examination can now access their results through the board’s approved result-checking platforms.
According to Benjamin, the release of the mop-up results marks the beginning of the next phase of the admission process, as the board is set to commence the ranking of candidates immediately, The News Edition reports.
“Following the successful completion of the mop-up examination and the release of the results, the board will begin the ranking of candidates,” he stated.
He added that the printing of results required for admission processing is expected to commence before the end of the week.
Admission Process Moves to Next Stage
The ranking process is a key stage in the admission cycle, helping institutions assess and consider candidates for placement into various academic programmes.
With the release of the mop-up results, candidates who participated in the exercise will now be included in the broader admission consideration process alongside those who sat for the main UTME.
JAMB advised candidates to use only official channels provided by the board to check their examination results and admission status.
Why the Mop-Up Examination Was Conducted
The mop-up examination was conducted on June 13, 2026, to accommodate candidates who were unable to sit for the main UTME despite completing biometric verification procedures.
According to JAMB, the affected candidates missed the examination due to technical issues, biometric verification challenges, and other disruptions experienced at designated examination centres.
The board organised the exercise to ensure that eligible candidates were not unfairly disadvantaged in the admission process.
The main 2026 UTME was conducted nationwide between April 16 and April 25, attracting thousands of candidates seeking admission into tertiary institutions across Nigeria.
With the release of the mop-up results, attention is now shifting to the admission phase as institutions prepare to begin screening and selection processes for the 2026/2027 academic session.
