The Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Olatunji Disu, has directed the Katsina State Police Command to reinforce security measures around schools across the state as part of efforts to safeguard students, teachers, and educational facilities.
The directive was conveyed by the Deputy Inspector-General of Police (DIG) in charge of Finance and Administration, Sulaiman Abdul, during a two-day operational assessment tour of Katsina State.
According to the DIG, the police command has been instructed to intensify security operations around schools by increasing patrols, strengthening intelligence gathering, and maintaining a visible security presence in and around educational institutions.
Police to Increase Patrols Around Schools
Abdul said the move is aimed at preventing criminal activities and ensuring a safe environment for learning across the state.
“The command is directed to intensify patrols, strengthen intelligence gathering and maintain high police visibility around educational institutions to prevent violent crimes and guarantee a safe environment for teaching and learning,” he stated.
The directive comes amid growing concerns about the security of schools in parts of northern Nigeria, where authorities have continued to implement measures designed to protect students and staff from potential threats.
Security Assessment Conducted
As part of the operational tour, the DIG visited the Police Children School and the Government Girls Technical and Commercial College in Charanchi Local Government Area.
During the visits, he assessed existing security arrangements at the institutions, including perimeter fencing, access control systems, security posts, and the deployment of police personnel.
The inspection was aimed at evaluating the effectiveness of current security measures and identifying areas that may require improvement.

The police leadership reaffirmed its commitment to protecting educational institutions and ensuring that schools remain safe spaces for teaching and learning.
Security experts have consistently emphasized the importance of proactive policing, intelligence-led operations, and collaboration with local communities in preventing attacks on schools and other public facilities.
