The presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) for the 2027 general election, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, on Thursday held a private meeting with former Rivers State Governor, Rotimi Amaechi, following the party’s recently concluded presidential primary.
Atiku secured the ADC presidential ticket after defeating Amaechi and businessman Mohammed Hayatu-Deen during the party’s primary election.
Amaechi had earlier rejected the outcome of the exercise, alleging that the process was marred by irregularities.
The former Minister of Transportation expressed dissatisfaction with the conduct of the primary even before the official announcement of the results.
In his acceptance speech after emerging victorious, Atiku called on all aggrieved members of the party, including Amaechi, to unite and work together ahead of the 2027 presidential election, The News Edition reports.
Although details of Thursday’s meeting were not immediately made public, neither Atiku nor Amaechi addressed journalists after the talks.
However, sources within the ADC suggested that the meeting may be part of ongoing efforts by Atiku to reconcile with key stakeholders within the party and secure broader support ahead of the 2027 elections.
Political observers believe the meeting could play a significant role in strengthening unity within the ADC as the party prepares for the upcoming national polls.
