At least 32 people have been killed and more than 200 others displaced following a series of violent clashes between farmers and herders in Udege, Nasarawa Local Government Area of Nasarawa State.
The crisis, which reportedly began on April 3, 2026, in Odeni Gida Electoral Ward, has spread to several communities, including Angwan Mada, Apura Adagba, Udege Kasa, Akyewa, Angwan Ogiri, and surrounding settlements, The News Edition reports.
The violence has also left several people injured or missing, while homes, farmlands, vehicles, motorcycles, food supplies, and economic trees worth millions of naira have been destroyed.
The figures were disclosed on Monday during plenary at the Nasarawa State House of Assembly by the member representing Udege/Loko Constituency, Hon. Onarigu Onah Kana, who raised the matter as one of urgent public importance.
Kana said the prolonged attacks have disrupted farming activities, forcing many residents to flee their communities and seek refuge in temporary camps.
He warned that continued insecurity is preventing farmers from accessing their farmlands, posing a serious threat to food production and livelihoods in the affected areas.
The lawmaker also cited recent killings in Akum and Agam villages, warning that the violence could spread further if urgent action is not taken.
He appealed to the Assembly to support the immediate deployment of additional security personnel and urged the Nasarawa State Emergency Management Agency (NASEMA) and the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) to provide relief materials, medical assistance, and temporary shelter for displaced residents.
In response, the Nasarawa State House of Assembly urged Governor Abdullahi Sule to direct security agencies to reinforce operations in the affected communities.
The lawmakers also called on traditional rulers and community leaders to establish peace and reconciliation committees, while urging the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) to strengthen security efforts in the area.
Speaker of the House, Rt. Hon. Danladi Jatau, described the renewed violence as unfortunate and stressed the need for coordinated action to restore peace and prevent further loss of lives and property.
