President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the establishment of a new Nigerian Army battalion in Omu-Aran, Irepodun Local Government Area of Kwara State, in a move aimed at strengthening security across the state.
The development was announced in a statement issued by the Deputy Chief Press Secretary to the Kwara State Governor, Mashood AbdulRafiu Agboola.
According to the statement, the new military formation will enhance security operations in areas affected by banditry, kidnapping, terrorism and other criminal activities.
Kwara State Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq welcomed the approval, describing it as a significant boost to ongoing efforts to improve security and protect lives and property.
He expressed appreciation to President Tinubu for approving the request and also commended the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, for facilitating the swift processing of the proposal.
The governor said the deployment of additional military personnel and assets would strengthen counter-terrorism and anti-kidnapping operations across the state.
“On behalf of the people and government of Kwara State, I sincerely thank Mr. President for fulfilling this important promise. We are confident that the new battalion will significantly improve security and reinforce ongoing operations against criminal elements,” AbdulRazaq said.
He also acknowledged the contributions of the Office of the National Security Adviser (ONSA), the Nigerian Army, the Department of State Services (DSS), the Nigeria Police Force, and other security agencies for their continued collaboration in tackling insecurity.
The governor reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to supporting security agencies through coordinated efforts aimed at ensuring lasting peace and safeguarding communities across Kwara State.
