JAMB Dismisses Staff Member Over Alleged Extortion of Candidates

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has dismissed one of its staff members over alleged extortion of candidates.

The Board announced the disciplinary action on Monday, saying it was part of ongoing efforts to strengthen integrity and accountability within Nigeria’s admission and examination system.

According to JAMB, the unnamed staff member allegedly abused their position to exploit unsuspecting candidates, The News Edition reports.

The Board said its efforts to tackle fraud and misconduct would not be limited to individuals outside the organisation, stressing that staff members found engaging in unethical practices would also face disciplinary action.

JAMB warned its employees against exploiting candidates or engaging in any conduct capable of undermining the credibility of the examination and admission process.

It emphasised that its zero-tolerance policy on corruption applies to all staff, regardless of rank or position.

The Board further stated that it would not shield any employee who abuses their office or betrays the trust placed in JAMB by candidates and members of the public.

JAMB said the dismissal demonstrates its commitment to maintaining a professional, transparent and accountable workforce, adding that efforts to protect the integrity of the institution must begin from within.
