Governor Orders Arrest of Anyone Operating in Union’s Name at Motor Parks
Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke has ordered the immediate suspension of all activities of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) across the state following a prolonged leadership crisis within the union.
The directive was announced after a meeting of the Osun State Security Council and conveyed in a statement issued on Thursday by the Commissioner for Information and Public Enlightenment, Kolapo Alimi.
According to the governor, the internal dispute within the union has disrupted commercial activities and raised security concerns in several parts of the state, The News Edition reports.
As part of the directive, Governor Adeleke ordered an immediate halt to the collection of levies and all other NURTW-related activities at motor parks across Osun State.
He also directed the Nigeria Police Force and other security agencies to arrest anyone claiming to be an official or executive of the union while carrying out activities in the state’s motor parks.
“I have directed the police and other security agencies to stop all activities of the union in motor parks across the state. The parks should remain open, but no individual should operate under the name of the NURTW. Anyone who violates this directive should be arrested and prosecuted for disturbing public peace,” the governor stated.
To ensure full compliance, Adeleke also approved the immediate establishment of a Rapid Response Squad comprising personnel from various security agencies.
The task force is expected to monitor motor parks across the state and enforce the government’s directive aimed at restoring law and order.
