The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), Taraba State University (TSU) chapter, has called on the Taraba State Government to expedite the implementation of outstanding agreements reached with the union, including the Consolidated Academic Tools Allowance (CATA) and other negotiated welfare packages.
The union warned that delays in fulfilling the agreements could threaten the industrial harmony currently being enjoyed at the institution.
In a statement issued on Thursday, ASUU-TSU Chairman, Dr. Joshua Garba Mbave, acknowledged the efforts of Governor Agbu Kefas in improving staff welfare and commended the ongoing engagement between the government and the union, The News Edition reports.
However, he stressed the need for authorities to complete the implementation of all pending obligations within the agreed timelines.
According to Mbave, the National Executive Council of ASUU is closely monitoring how state governments are complying with agreements reached with university unions, particularly regarding CATA and other staff entitlements.
Progress Recorded on Pension, Salary Arrears
The union disclosed that the state government had approved the enrolment of Taraba State University workers into the state’s Defined Pension Scheme, with necessary documentation for retired and deceased staff already submitted for processing.
Mbave further revealed that implementation is awaiting the governor’s final approval before payment of accrued pension benefits can begin.
He also noted that progress had been made in clearing salary arrears and Earned Academic Allowance (EAA), with the state government releasing N500 million following the suspension of industrial action and an additional N200 million in July 2026 to continue the payment process.
CATA, Approved Salary Structure Still Pending
Despite the progress, ASUU said key components of its agreement with the government remain unresolved, including the implementation of the approved salary structure and payment of CATA.
The union recalled that it formally requested the implementation of CATA in a letter sent to the university’s Governing Council in March 2026.
It also noted that the National Universities Commission (NUC) had directed state-owned universities to implement the 2025 Federal Government-ASUU agreement.
ASUU urged the Taraba State Government to fast-track all administrative procedures to ensure the timely execution of the outstanding agreements.
The union reaffirmed its commitment to dialogue and lawful engagement while pledging to continue advocating for the welfare of its members and the development of the university.
