The National Examinations Council (NECO) has officially released the results of the 2026 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE), providing thousands of candidates across Nigeria with access to their performance in the nationwide assessment.
The announcement was made in a statement issued on Thursday by NECO’s Acting Director of Information and Public Relations, Azeez Sani.
Over 186,000 Candidates Participated
According to NECO, a total of 186,291 candidates registered for the 2026 BECE, which covered 12 subjects.
The candidates were drawn from the 36 states of the federation, the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), and five foreign countries.
The examination commenced on April 20 and concluded successfully on April 30, 2026.
Results Approved After Award Committee Meeting
Sani disclosed that the release of the results followed the successful conclusion of the 2026 BECE Award Committee Meeting held at NECO’s headquarters in Minna, Niger State.
The meeting was chaired by the Minister of Education, Dr. Tunji Alausa, who was represented by the Director of Basic Education at the Federal Ministry of Education, Dr. Folake Olatunji-David.
Also present at the meeting were secondary school principals from various parts of the country and members of NECO’s management team.
NECO Fixes Dates for BECE Resit Examination
The examination body also announced that the 2026 BECE resit examination will hold on July 22 and July 23, 2026.
According to NECO, the resit examination will cover Mathematics and English Studies and is specifically designed for candidates with conditional deficiencies in either or both subjects.
Opportunity for Candidates to Secure Admission
NECO explained that the resit examination offers affected candidates another opportunity to meet the academic requirements needed for progression into Senior Secondary School One (SSS I).
The council noted that successful participation in the resit examination would enable eligible candidates to correct deficiencies without repeating an entire academic session.
The initiative is aimed at supporting students in achieving the qualifications necessary for admission and placement into senior secondary education.
