The Oyo State Government has announced a temporary curfew in 10 local government areas surrounding the Old Oyo National Park as part of renewed efforts to tackle insecurity, kidnapping, and other criminal activities in the region.
According to a statement issued by the Commissioner for Information, Dotun Oyelade, the curfew will take effect from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 a.m. daily, beginning on June 24, 2026.
The restriction is expected to remain in force for an initial period of 48 hours, while security agencies carry out intensified operations in the affected areas, The News Edition reports.

The local government areas covered by the directive include:
– Oriire Local Government Area (Ikoyi-Ile)
– Orelope Local Government Area (Igboho)
– Irepo Local Government Area (Kisi)
– Saki West Local Government Area (Saki)
– Saki East Local Government Area (Ago-Amodu)
– Atisbo Local Government Area (Tede/Ago-Are)
– Itesiwaju Local Government Area (Otu)
– Iseyin Local Government Area (Iseyin)
– Olorunsogo Local Government Area (Igbeti)
– Atiba Local Government Area (Offa-Meta, Oyo)
Government Intensifies Security Measures
The state government said the decision forms part of ongoing efforts to address the growing security concerns affecting communities located around the Old Oyo National Park.
Authorities have expressed concern over incidents of kidnapping and other criminal activities allegedly linked to the area, prompting the need for stricter security measures.
According to Oyelade, the curfew will provide security agencies with the necessary operational space to conduct surveillance, track criminal elements, and strengthen security across the affected communities.
Residents Urged to Comply
The commissioner appealed to residents of the affected local government areas to cooperate fully with security personnel and comply with the temporary restrictions.
He emphasized that the measure is aimed at protecting lives and property while restoring peace and stability in the region.
The government assured residents that security agencies are working tirelessly to ensure normalcy returns as quickly as possible and urged members of the public to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities to the appropriate authorities.
