An aide to former Minister of Power and prominent All Progressives Congress (APC) figure in Oyo State, Adebayo Adelabu, has dismissed reports suggesting that the politician is planning to leave the party for the Social Democratic Party (SDP).
The aide, Femi Awogboro, described the claims as false, misleading, and politically motivated, insisting that Adelabu remains a loyal member of the APC.
In a statement issued on behalf of the former minister, Awogboro said there was no truth to the speculation surrounding a possible defection and maintained that the reports were designed to create unnecessary political distractions.
According to Awogboro, discussions about a defection are premature and unfounded, especially as the APC governorship primary process in Oyo State has not been concluded.
He argued that the rumours lacked any factual basis and were merely attempts to gain public attention by linking Adelabu’s name to unfounded political narratives.
“Chief Adelabu remains a committed and loyal member of the APC. No amount of propaganda, political mischief, or wishful thinking can change that fact,” he stated.
The aide emphasized that Adelabu has continued to identify with the APC and remains committed to the party’s internal processes ahead of the 2027 governorship race.
Awogboro also rejected suggestions that Adelabu could resort to changing political platforms to pursue his ambitions, stressing that the former minister’s political career has never been driven by desperation.
He noted that Adelabu has held several strategic positions in both the public and private sectors, earning appointments through competence, experience, and professional achievements.
According to him, the APC chieftain has no reason to engage in what he described as political opportunism or desperate manoeuvres.
The aide accused those behind the reports of attempting to exploit Adelabu’s growing popularity and political influence for relevance.
He called for issue-based politics in Oyo State and condemned the circulation of unverified information aimed at misleading the public.
Awogboro further demanded an immediate retraction and apology from those responsible for publishing the claims, warning that Adelabu’s legal team is reviewing the matter.
He stated that legal action could be pursued if the allegations continue to be circulated without evidence.
Reaffirming Adelabu’s political goals, Awogboro said the former minister remains focused on his vision for Oyo State and is committed to engaging residents on developmental issues rather than political controversies.
He added that Adelabu would not allow rumours or political distractions to derail his efforts as preparations for the 2027 governorship election gather momentum.
According to the aide, the APC stalwart remains dedicated to the party’s ideals and will continue to pursue his political aspirations within the framework of the ruling party.
