JAMB Warns Candidates Against Accepting Admission Outside CAPS

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has warned candidates seeking admission into Nigerian tertiary institutions against accepting admission offers outside its Central Admissions Processing System (CAPS), stating that such offers may not be recognised as valid.

The examination body issued the warning in a post on its official X account on Monday, urging prospective students to verify their admission status on CAPS before accepting any offer.

According to JAMB, accepting admission through unofficial channels could expose candidates to complications involving their academic records and admission status, The News Edition reports.

“An admission offered by an institution outside the approved JAMB admission process may not be recognised as valid.

“Accepting such an offer could put your academic journey at risk and create complications with your admission records and related processes,” the board stated.

JAMB issued the advisory while promoting an episode of its JAMB Explained series, which addresses illegal admissions, their consequences and the steps candidates can take to protect themselves.

“Your admission journey deserves the right foundation. Verify before you accept,” the board added.

What Candidates Should Know About JAMB CAPS

The Central Admissions Processing System (CAPS) was developed by JAMB to automate and regulate the admission process into Nigerian tertiary institutions.

The platform enables candidates to check their admission status and accept or reject provisional admission offers. It also allows institutions to process admissions through the board’s approved system.

Under JAMB’s 2026 admission guidelines, admission offers are required to be processed through the board and made available on its e-Facility platform.

The guidelines explicitly warn against admission offers issued outside the approved process.

“Any offer of admission from any tertiary institution without JAMB Admission Letter is illegal and is not recognized by the Board,” the guidelines state.

JAMB further cautions that candidates who accept admission outside CAPS do so at their own risk, adding that the board will neither recognise nor condone such admissions.

The warning reinforces the importance of verifying admission offers through official channels before making decisions that could affect candidates’ educational future.

Prospective students are therefore advised to check their admission status through the official JAMB e-Facility portal and ensure that their admission is processed in accordance with the board’s requirements.
